Traditional Programs

Nashua Community College

Nashua Community College’s (NCC) Paralegal Studies programs provide students with an introduction to substantive areas of law while developing skills critical to the field such as written and oral communication. The school offers two paralegal programs: a 60- to 61-credit Associate of Science (AS) degree in Paralegal Studies and a 28-credit Paralegal Certificate, both of which are transferable to a bachelor’s program for students who chose to pursue a four-year degree after graduating. Courses are offered in the evenings to accommodate working students. Both the AS and Certificate programs require two years to complete. Students will take classes such as Legal Research and Writing; Litigation and Trial Preparation; Family Law; and Criminal Law. During the final semester of study, students will complete either a Paralegal Internship or the Paralegal Capstone course, designed to prepare students to find employment after graduation. NCC is a member of the Paralegal Association of New Hampshire (PANH).

New Hampshire Technical Institute-Concord’s Community College

The ABA-approved Associate of Science (AS) in Paralegal Studies at New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI)-Concord’s Community College is centered on a broad-based curriculum that includes courses in general education, practical skills, and substantive legal knowledge. Students of the 67- to 69-credit program will develop legal writing and research skills, analytical and critical thinking abilities, and competency in professional technologies. The curriculum also includes a legal internship that enables students to sample a professional legal environment and begin developing a professional network. This program is offered primarily in the evenings and on either a full-time or part-time schedule. Graduates of the program will be prepared for further legal study or to enter the legal field as paralegals. Admission to the AAS in Paralegal Studies requires an interview with the department chair, two letters of reference, and an essay. Students with at least 45 college credits may apply for the ABA-approved Paralegal Studies Certificate Program, which requires 22 to 25 credits to complete.

Hybrid and Online Programs

Franklin Pierce University

Franklin Pierce University offers an online undergraduate Certificate in Paralegal Studies for students interested in the paralegal and legal assistant field. The 30-credit curriculum can be completed in as few as 12 months. The Paralegal Certificate is taught entirely online and is open to any applicant with a high school diploma or equivalent. Students learn legal fundamentals through courses like Tort Law; Probate Law; Litigation; Corporate and Business Law; and Criminal Law. The curriculum also includes classes such as Legal Analysis, Research, and Writing and Microcomputer Applications, in which students learn practical, hands-on skills needed in a legal office environment. A GPA of 2.0 or higher is required to graduate from the program. After completing it, graduates with a previous bachelor’s degree will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Exam from the National Association for Legal Assistants (NALA). Graduates may find paralegal positions in law firms, government agencies, legal departments of businesses, or community legal service organizations.
